I was talking with a client yesterday who was explaining to me the cycle of the new day. I thought, “ahhh, I remember it well”.
This is the one where we make a commitment to start over at daybreak, but then waiver and give up deciding the day is shot anyway. We promise to start tomorrow…then tomorrow…then tomorrow – but tomorrow never comes. How do we break this cycle?
Years ago I had made the commitment for the umpteenth time, a new day/a fresh start/a clean slate…you know the drill. I made a commitment to work at eating intuitively, but since I’d already broken the promise of that day I thought, “tomorrow is the day, I’m going to do it this time.” Suddenly I heard a soft voice in the back of my head – it said “If not now, when?” WOW – what a message and I heard it! In that moment I realized I could start my day over anytime I want. In that moment it clicked and I have never gone back to that self-defeated way of thinking.
Start your day over – don’t rely on the clock to give you the promise of a new day – time is relative anyway, meaningless.
Make a commitment to yourself. Treat yourself with loving kindness, be honest, be real – don’t give up on yourself. Remember what Hillel said – IF NOT NOW, WHEN?
